Ellwood Group, Inc. Promotes Mike Rollins to VP of Business Development for Ellwood Oil and Gas

I am pleased to announce the promotion of Mike Rollins to Vice President of Business Development for Ellwood Oil and Gas (EO&G), effective February 16, 2018. Mike will report to me and be located in Houston, Texas. In his new role, he will work in collaboration with EGI Presidents and their teams to coordinate and enhance the integrated delivery of Ellwood products and services. Mike will be tasked with accelerating our efforts to take additional market share, develop new customers and bring new products to our O&G portfolio.

Mike started his career with Ellwood in 2011 as a sales director for ETFH. After holding a number of leadership positions at ETFH, in 2015 Mike became Vice President and General Manager. Shortly after being promoted to Vice President and General Manager, Mike led an aggressive restructuring, and successful turnaround of ETFH. Prior to joining EGI, Mike spent 20 years working in the forging industry, with Firth Rixson, Forgital, and other pipe flange manufacturers in the Houston area. His experience in forging, machining, and O&G sector products will serve us well.

Mike, his wife, Jennifer, and their children make their home in Friendswood, Texas.

$15,000 Metallurgy Scholarship 2017 – 2018 Winner Announced

Stuart Shirley of Broomfield, Colorado is the winner of the eleventh annual Ellwood Group, Inc. Metallurgy Scholarship. He is a junior at Colorado School of Mines. Stuart is majoring in Metallurgy and Materials Engineering and carries a 3.57 GPA.

Stuart was selected as the recipient because he is an exceptional student, who possesses a true interest in heavy metals manufacturing. Additionally, he has relevant intern experience in a forging and fabrication shop. Stuart will intern at Ellwood City Forge (ECF) this summer and will have the opportunity to make meaningful contributions to both our product and process improvement.

Colin Galey, Metallurgy Manager at ECF, who was a prior Metallurgy Scholarship recipient, will mentor Stuart. Colin received his Bachelor’s degree from Case Western Reserve University and is currently attending the University of Pittsburgh for his Master’s degree in metallurgy. Stuart will also work with Rachel Lukas, Metallurgical Engineer at ECF, who was also a past recipient of the scholarship. She obtained her Bachelor’s degree in metallurgy from the University of Pittsburgh. Additionally, Stuart will have the opportunity to interact with other Ellwood engineers and metallurgists, including Stephen Rooney, Metallurgical Engineer at EMT and former scholarship recipient.

The scholarship will be presented to Stuart by Marie Russo, EGI Director of HR, at Colorado School of Mines in March 2018.

EGI will also award $5,000 scholarships each to Benjamin Miller, Brooklyn Carlson, and Benjamin Eller, who were finalists for the scholarship. Benjamin Miller is attending Iowa State University and majoring in Materials Engineering. Brooklyn Carlson is attending the University of Wisconsin – Madison and majoring in Materials Science and Engineering and Benjamin Eller is attending Virginia Tech and majoring in Materials Science and Engineering.

All four students were provided with tours of Ellwood’s manufacturing facilities in New Castle, PA and had the opportunity to speak with several of the Company’s metallurgists, engineers and other representatives.

2017 Metallurgy Scholarship

Ellwood Group, Inc. (EGI) is pleased to announce our Annual Metallurgy Scholarship. This scholarship is awarded on an annual basis to talented and dedicated metallurgical students to encourage their pursuit of a career within the steel and heavy metal industry. Our goal is to encourage more students to choose metallurgy as their field of study and to recruit more interns and graduates into the industry, specifically to EGI.

 

A $15,000 scholarship will be awarded to the top candidate and up to three additional $5,000 scholarships will be available to well qualified students. The minimum GPA requirement is 2.75.

The scholarship is open to undergraduate college students in their junior year currently majoring in the field of metallurgy/material science at selected and accredited four-year colleges and universities. The scholarship includes a paid internship at an EGI business unit in the USA during the summer of 2018.

EGI Hurricane Harvey Update

Ellwood operations in Houston, Beaumont, and Navasota were quickly restored and made fully operational following the devastating impact of Hurricane Harvey.

Many employees, however, suffered serious losses to their homes, furnishings, vehicles, and other belongings.  Thankfully, all are safe and no one was seriously injured.

As a show of concern and support, EGI shareholders, employees, vendors, and customers donated a substantial sum of money that was distributed to affected employees to help ease the financial impact of the devastation.

EGI expresses gratitude for the generosity of those who contributed and wishes our fellow employees who experienced these losses a speedy recovery.  

 

Ellwood Group, Inc. (EGI) in agreement to acquire the assets of Wolf Creek Machine, Inc. of Grove City, PA

With an effective date of October 9, 2017 Ellwood Group has agreed to purchase the assets of Wolf Creek Machine Inc., a Grove City based specialist in machining large forgings. WC Machine will become an operating unit of EGI’s open die forging business, the Ellwood City Forge Group (ECFG).

The acquisition of Wolf Creek Machine will add valuable machining capability and capacity to Ellwood City Forge Group and allow for continued growth in strategic markets. WC Machine will be led by General Manager Brendan Noone and supported by Bill Nardone, VP of Operations, and the rest of ECFG’s capable team.

We welcome WC Machine to the Ellwood City Forge Group and look forward to growing our future together.

Ellwood Group, Inc. (EGI) has completed the acquisition of the assets of Gulf Coast Machine & Supply, located in Beaumont, Texas.

Effective June 10, 2017, Gulfco Forge Company, LLC has purchased the assets of Gulf Coast Machine & Supply Co. Gulfco Forge Company, LLC (Gulfco or GFC) a manufacturer of open die forgings and rolled rings will be a division of Ellwood Group, Inc. (EGI).

The acquisition of Gulfco will bring key synergies to EGI and position Gulfco for long-term success and financial stability. Gulfco’s site history goes back nearly 100 years providing forging solutions to the energy and industrial markets. Going forward, Gulfco will work in concert with other EGI entities providing high quality open die forging, ring rolling, heat treating and machining services to its historical markets and those currently served by EGI.

Gulfco will be integrated into EGI’s Texas Operations led by Richard Allender and Mark Miller, recently promoted to General Manager of GFC. Richard and Mark have over 50 years of industry experience and will lead EGI’s efforts in developing a new organization, offering high quality and competitive products to our southern markets.

This is to announce that Joshua Young of Clinton Township, Michigan is the winner of the tenth annual Ellwood Group, Inc. Metallurgy Scholarship. He is a junior at Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan. Joshua is majoring in Materials Science and Engineering and carries a 3.82 GPA.

Joshua was selected as the recipient because he is an exceptional student, with a genuine interest in heavy metals manufacturing. He has relevant intern experience in a melt shop and will further his intern experience at an Ellwood business unit this summer.

The scholarship will be presented to Joshua by Marie Russo, EGI Director HR, at MSU in March 2017.

EGI will also award $5,000 scholarships each to Curtis Baker and Wesley Roth, who were finalists for the scholarship. Curtis is attending Montana Tech and majoring in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering. Wesley is attending the University of Illinois at Urbana – Champaign and majoring in Materials Science and Engineering.

Ellwood Group, Inc. Promotes Valli Senthilnathan to President of Ellwood Texas Forge Navasota

Effective February 1, 2017, Ellwood Group is pleased to announce the promotion of Valli Senthilnathan as President of Ellwood Texas Forge Navasota (ETFN), reporting to Richard Allender, Group President—Ellwood Texas Operations.

Valli joined ETFN in 2008 as Vice President and General Manager. Prior to ETFN, he held the roles of Plant Manager and Quality Manager at Interstate Southwest, Navasota, Texas since 2005. He worked for Metaldyne/Mascotech Corporation, Plymouth, MI from 1996 till 2005 and held various roles in Sales, Engineering and Operations.

Valli holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Anna University, Chennai, India, a Master of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Chennai, India, and a Doctorate in Materials Science and Engineering from The University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.

Valli and his wife, Zoila, and their two children reside in College Station, Texas.

Ellwood Group, Inc. Promotes Patrick F. Callihan to President of Ellwood Engineered Castings

Effective November 1, 2016, Ellwood Group is pleased to announce the promotion of Patrick F. Callihan as President of Ellwood Engineered Castings (EEC), reporting to the COO of the company. Pat will replace the retiring Dan Rhoads.

Pat joined EEC in 2012 as Vice President of Technical Services and was promoted to Vice President of Operations in 2013. Pat holds many quality certifications from the American Society for Quality and is a Certified Six Sigma Black Belt. His extensive experience includes Ward Manufacturing Company, Indalex Aluminum Company, and Wheatland Tube Company where he was Plant Manager.

He holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Material Science from Youngstown State University (YSU), a Master of Science in Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering from YSU, and a Doctorate of Engineering in Systems Engineering, Reliability, and Quality from Cleveland State University.

Pat and his wife, Kimberly, and their two children reside in Youngstown, OH.

Dan Rhoads, President, Ellwood Engineered Castings to Retire

Effective January 1, 2017, Dan Rhoads will retire from Ellwood Engineered Castings (EEC), Hubbard, Ohio. On November 1, 2016, Dan will step into an EGI Executive Vice President role, reporting to the COO, until his retirement in January.

Dan joined EEC as President in March 2008 and during his 8 ½ year tenure was responsible for significant improvements at EEC. Prior to joining Ellwood, Dan managed operations at Kaiser Aluminum, Steere Enterprises, and Grede Foundry, Inc. in Wichita, Kansas.
He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology from Purdue University.

Dan will be remembered for his passion and sincerity, always working in the best interests of the company, customers, and EEC employees. We will miss his enthusiasm for the game of golf and his hearty laugh.
